How Britt got started Racing.....
( 2003 ) We found a coupon in the Little Nickel Want Ads to go to an Indoor Karting Facility. It was Located in Puyallup, Wa and the name of it was Kart King - Owned and Operated by Vern Benson. The first time we went.... Brett, I, and our two boys.... Brandon and Britt, we all goofed around and Had alot of fun.... The oldest of our 2 boys, Brandon, Enjoyed it the most.. so we thought it was good family fun so every weekend we went down on Sundays and did 2 or 3 sessions. Britt started to get faster and faster and soon had the fastest lap record. Later he was invited join a league night and was a front runner in the series of races earning himself a 2nd or 3rd place. Jeff Benson, Cousin of Vern Benson the owner..... Started telling us that britt really needed to be racing in the dirt in a go kart... He had very good handling for a kid. The racing surface was like a polishied concrete floor, NO GRIP, and the karts averaged about 40mph....
After a few weeks of him (jeff) not letting up about this... we thought it just might be fun so we bought a kart and went for it...
Britt jumped into a 2cycle go kart and off he went... it was the funniest looking kart... kinda looked like a batmobile kart.. He started running the Burris I-5 Summer Series, Consisting of 6 races at a few of the different little dirt tracks in washington. about 2 races into the series... Britton felt if the kart could not go faster and be more competitive than he was done with this... SO... Brett went and bought a kart from Russ and Andy Randall that had been a proven fast kart. After that it was game on... Britt worked his way in a quick fashion to being a front runner at all the races and finished his first year in true Dirt Go-Karting with a 6th place finish.
To keep Britton driving through the off-season from the summer series, we did the 2004-2005 CKA Oakwood winter series. This 1/8 mile track is inside an old airplane hangar out in graham, roy area. With holes in the roof weather ---was definately a factor. If it was raining, it rained in corner 3&4... if it was snowing.... Yep, You got an ice puddle in the same area... This made for some thinking on all of the drivers parts... and sometimes made for viewing the races quite comical. Britton got a 3rd place in his first heatrace, a 2nd place in his 2nd heatrace and 1st in the Main, after that first win.... Britton went on a string of wins, a total of 22 -1st places back to back in all heats and mains... winning his 2004-2005 CKA championship.
During that same winter we took Britt to the Arizona Winter Classic, Running the 2Cycle Kart Britt finished 2nd...and in the 4Cycle he had finished 6th and 8th.
In 2005, His was starting his second full year of Karting, During this Summer with Britt running up front of most races with multiple 1st,2nd and 3rd place wins..... In June, we decided to go to the Albequerque, New Mexico 2005 Grand Nationals and compete against the best of the karters from around the states. Britt on the first night of competition finished 3rd in the States Race... The second night was the Nationals 2cycle Light competition where britt again took a 3rd place finish.... On The morning of the Nationals 2cycle Heavy competition Britt woke up and said " We're going to win a duffy trophy today "... Cautiously, we told him.. Yes you can.... On the line for the main, i got one last chance before going up to do my video taping to tell him...."Britt, if you want it bad enough... GO MAKE IT YOURS," HE DID!!! Brett and I both helplessly watched as our 13 year old son went out to try to achieve Go Kartings most prized trophy.... A DUFFY...named after Duffy Livingstone, Who to this day is considered 'The father of Go-Karting' ---he co-found the go kart mfg co. in 1957.. We watched in amazement as britt took the lead early in the race and finished up front ...Britton was right that morning... He Won...He was now the 2005 Grand National Champion of 2Cycle Heavy Speedway Karting.
In April or May of 2005 we read about the Redbull Racing Competition; They were looking to find approx. 100 of the best go karters from the united states and bring them to Sonoma, CA to compete over 3 days to find what the called "The Diamond in the Rough"... We found out that they were holding mini competitions at a few of the indoor tracks in Washington and decided to give it a try...We drove Britt to Traxx Indoor Karting in Mukilteo, Wa. 2 times a week for a 2 hours driving session over a 4 week period... being a 1 &1/2 hr drive each way it was quite the commitment... One of these nights was on a tuesday and started at 7pm, meaning that Britt would get home about 11pm and have to get up early to go to school the next morning. During this time He was also running another indoor series at Sykart in Tukwila that consisted of 12 races with 28 competitors...He finish 3rd place in this series as another practice for the RedBull Runoffs. On the final competitive night at Traxx, where the winner would be determined... Britt started on the pole which was determined by qualifying times and he was never passed... Britt won the 1st place prize which was an all expense trip to compete in the RedBull Run-offs in July'05... For a dirt trak'r.... Britt competed to the best of his abilities on a very technically Challenging track in Sonoma against drivers that had been racing roadcoarses for years and did not attend school but homeschooled to allow for more driving time... He finished about 1/2 the pack.... WE WERE PROUD... He had alot of fun, was part of a very cool competition, learned alot about the technical side of RoadRacing in karts as well as found a confidence in himself as a racer and had more than his share of free Redbull refreshments.
Britton Returned back to washington to finish up his 2005 Summer Series and earned a 2nd place finish in the Burris summer series.
He then went into his 2nd winter of indoor at Oakwood to again finish as the 2005/06 Winter Champion of 2cycle. During the 2005/06 winter... Britt returned once again to Arizona in hopes of winning the precious Arizona Classic "Crystal Bowl" that the class Champions each year come to claim.. Britt entered into 6 classes with 2 karts... He competed in the 2cycle Light and Heavy division where he won back to back Crystal Bowls... out of 6 races in that class britt finished 1st in all but 1 race where he took a 2nd place...In the 4 cycle britt finished 5th,4th, 5th, and 4th... Britt was the only racer that had earned a podium finish in EVERY single race that he attempted that weekend...
It was time to move on.... Dirt 600 Sprintcar here we come...in his first year at deming... britton finished 6th in the points and during his 1st ClayCup nationals he was able to finish a very respectable 10th place in the A Main... The biggest payout he'd every won... of $400.00 and had tooo much fun, after 3 years of Racing the 600 mini sprint out at Deming Speedway on the 1/5 dirt track, with a Main Event and Several top 5 finishes, multiple fast times and Multiple Heat Race wins... He got the chance to move up.....
to the Asphalt in the 360 class, running Mike Witte's #96 ERP House car over at Ephrata Raceway Park... which pretty much brings us up to date... We are having a blast as a Team, Britt keeps gaining knowledge of his Car Set-Up and is constantly pushing his Driver abilities to the next level... We feel competitive in an amazing group of seasoned drivers and have high hopes for a win soon... Britt has Consistently Qualified in the fast 4 group... with 3 Top Qualifiers so far... and 2 Top 5 finishes. Britt Competed in the Cast Iron Nationals 360 event where he placed a very respectable 8th out of 22 comptitor teams. Finishing up the Season with "2009 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR in the 360 asphalt class.
Britton ran in the 2009 Clay Cup Nationals where he placed 10th again.
